I feel lucky to live in a city with so many lovely places to go for good tea. And no place is prettier than the T Project shop. The NW Portland space is part shop, part gallery, and part studio where owner Teri Gelber artfully blends and packages T Project teas. It's airy and bright with the perfect dose of relaxed elegance.
Nearly two dozen different tea blends and herbal tisanes line the shelves. Some are delicious riffs on classic blends like Earl Grey, jasmine green, or masala chai. While others are wonderfully inventive, like a Darjeeling black tea blend with vanilla beans and pink peppercorns, or a blend of Chinese white and green teas with cedar tips, peppermint, spices, vanilla beans and roses. Be sure to taste a few if you make it into the shop, or you can order online to try at home.
All T Project teas are made with pure, high quality ingredients and no added flavorings (natural or otherwise). I really appreciate Teri's meticulous approach. You'll notice subtlety and harmony in each blend -- every ingredient shines through, but none overpower. Also worth noting, the teas come in gorgeous paper-wrapped canisters or kraft bags, and are playfully named after popular songs like Tangled Up in Blue and I'll Take You There.
Browsing the shop, you'll find lots of other beautiful, useful, and delicious things to take home. There's a lovely selection of handmade (and much of it locally made) teaware. The porcelain tea cups and tumblers made especially for T Project are some of my favorites. Other finds include carefully chosen jams and honeys, linen tableware and tea towels, candles, baskets, bowls and more. If you're not in Portland, don't despair. Many of these are also available in the online shop, under the aptly titled section wonderful things.
